Cucurbita moschata

Minimum seed count: 15

This is one of my favorite squash to grow for its sheer summer bounty.

Tromboncino squash is an heirloom variety from the Liguria region of northwest Italy, and its name is Italian for "little trombone".  It's also known as Zuchetta Rampicante, Climbing Zucchini, Trombolino d’Albenga, and Serpentine Squash.

Tromboncino squash is one of the few winter squashes that can also be harvested as summer squash.  It can be eaten when young when it has a sweet and mild flavor, or it can be left to mature on the vine and harvested when it turns golden, tasting similar to butternut squash.  Grow the vines up a trellis for straighter fruit, or let them ramble over the ground for all sorts of twisty shapes.
