Zea Mays

Minimum seed count: 50

Also known as Eight Row Flint Corn, this variety was originally cultivated by northeastern Native American tribes for generations, and is well adapted to New England.  This corn made its way to Italy in the 1800s, where it became a favorite for making polenta, in fact it became THE corn for making authentic Italian polenta.  Italy is where it picked up the name Otto File, which means 'eight rows' in Italian (though some cobs have more than eight rows).

Narrow 8-12" long cobs with golden orange kernels brushed with bronze.  High levels of carotenoids and high protein content make this corn much more nutritious than conventional corns.  Plants grow to 6.5 feet and produce 1-2 cobs per stalk.

Otto File is making a come-back with gardeners and chefs!
