Cucurbita pepo
Thelma Sanders Squash, also called 'Sweet Potato Squash', or 'Missouri Sweet Potato'. This acorn-shaped heirloom is a culinary delight, being exceptionally sweet and fine-textured (much like a sweet potato). This variety originally comes from Mrs. Thelma Sanders of Kirksville, Missouri. It was collected by Seed Savers Exchange, and first offered to their members in the early 1980s. While Thelma Sanders passed away in 1998, her legacy lives on in this delectable squash that continues to grow in popularity, and has even earned a spot on the Ark of Taste.
Vines are vigorous, disease resistant, and highly productive. Fruits are 1-2 pounds and mature to a tan or cream color. They store well, usually for 3-5 months.
