Cucurbita pepo
Minimum seed count: 15
Scallop squash are also known as pattypan types.
While it may look like a new-fangled hybrid, the white scallop is a very old Native American heirloom, grown for generations by the northern tribes. Archaeological evidence shows cultivation of pattypans in eastern North American going back to 8,000-10,000 years ago.
Europeans depicted this squash as early as 1591, and by the early 1700's, seeds had made it across to Europe. The white scallop has stood the test of time as one of the earliest, most productive, and tastiest summer squash. And it's uncommonly beautiful as well!
Manageable bush plants are perfect for smaller gardens.
