This is the classic heirloom eggplant, known for its large, dark purple, mild tasting fruit with tender skin that rarely needs peeling.  This variety has been around since the early 1900's and is the standard by which all other eggplants are judged!  Sturdy, 2-3 foot tall plants are very productive and may need light staking or trellising if they have a big load of fruit.  Loves heat but grows well in the North if started indoors.
