Hailing from North Germany where it is a staple, this kale with a long name is a vibrant green and has finely curled leaves, which could make it one of the prettiest plants in your garden.  Plants stay small at 18", and are very frost hardy.  In case you were wondering, Halbhoher Gruner Krauser is German for 'medium-high green curly'.
Kales are always in my garden because they're one of those plants that are easy to grow, and give a large amount of food for the small space they need to grow.  They are also very patient, waiting in the garden till you need them, and not going by if you miss a harvest window like many vegetables.
