Probably originated in the West Indies, before 1700. Large, vigorous vines each set 2-4 fruits that average 10 pounds each, but can grow much larger in ideal conditions. Resistant to heat and vine borers. Pale orange flesh is popular in the South for making cushaw pudding and cushaw butter. Very popular historic squash in Appalachia and the South West.
