Cucurbita maxima
Minimum seed count: 15
Also known as the Peanut Pumpkin for the peanut-like warts covering its skin, this French heirloom from the Bordeaux region has a very high sugar content and is one of the tastiest winter squash around. In fact, the warts are caused by sugar build-up in the skin. Popular in France for making soup. Vigorous vines produce 10-15 lb fruit and are easy to grow! Not a great keeper, so cook it up quickly or cut up and freeze for mid-winter soups.
