Cucurbita maxima

Minimum seed count: 15

Also known as Guatemalan Blue, this banana-shaped heirloom winter squash has its roots in Central and South America.  It grows to about 20" in length, and averages 5-10 lbs.

Considered to be of excellent table quality, banana type squashes used to be much more popular, until they were replaced by the Butternut.  (However, most will say that the Butternut can't compare to the flavor of Blue Banana).  Its high sugar content means a sweet caramelized when roasted, and its long shape means you can keep one in the fridge and cut off one slice at a time.

Very long, productive vines need a lot of space.
